In a green screen studio, full of models, puppets, tree bark and cardboard doctors, Hotel Modern depicts very personal stories in which being born doesn't just go without saying and life cannot be predicted.
Arlène Hoornweg's family history inspired her to create an magical-realistic story about the power of motherly love. In it, a mother loses her daughter in a tragic event. She embarks on a quest, determined to find her child again. Pauline Kalker depicts the grieving process that followed an abortion and a number of miscarriages. She dives into the years gone by in search for her unborn children and discovers how bitter pain can turn into precious sadness. Herman Helle creates a live video installation, using film images of his daughter growing up, Heleen Wiemer draws live animations and Reinier van Houdt composes and performs his live soundtrack.
